Your Invitation to Excellence
Students who qualify and are accepted to enter the Honors Program benefit from the experience, regardless of major, because of a specially selected curriculum that is set within the framework of the transfer program of all University of California and California State University campuses. Honors courses are innovative and reflect the instructors' interest in and commitment to students’ academic, intellectual, cultural, and social development.
Considerations for Acceptance
High school G.P.A. of 3.5 (4.00 scale), or
Graduation from high school in the top 25th G.P.A. percentile, or
Combined scores of 1200 on the SAT or a composite score of 24 on the ACT.
[Or 3.3 college G.P.A. for current college students who have completed at least 12 college units]
and Eligibility for English 1A

The Leon S. Peters Honors Scholarship
The Leon S. Peters Honors Scholarship recognizes the top 25 students participating in the Leon S. Peters Honors Program at Fresno City College. Scholarships of $1000 each will be awarded to students who have completed at least twelve (12) units of transfer courses, six (6) or more of which must be in the Honors Program. In addition, students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 and show evidence of active involvement in leadership, public service, or some activity that extends beyond the classroom. The Leon S. Peters Honors Program Scholarship provides support for exceptional Fresno City College students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance and exemplify Mr. Peters’ belief in the importance of quality education. Mr. Peters was born on a farm southeast of Fresno and attended school in the Fowler area. He was President of Valley Foundry and Machine Works which manufactured winemaking equipment, including tanks, crushers and presses. During WWII, the business manufactured ship winches and valves for the armed forces. Mr. Peters was involved in hundreds of causes and projects in the San Joaquin Valley, including making Fresno Community Hospital one of the area’s major health care institutions. His community service work was extensive as he believed in a strong commitment to the community. He was a dynamic figure in the business, cultural and civic life in Fresno.
